Birthed out of the Maryland hardcore scene, AFO formed in 1990 among four friends who liked skateboarding and listening to fast and loud music. Originally, bands like Fugazi, Bad Brains, Youth of Today, and Sick of It All influenced their initial sound. As time went on, they began to stretch their songwriting style and incorporated new sounds inspired from bands like Clutch, Helmet and Alice In Chains, before disbanding in 1994. To recapture the music they made almost 30 years ago, they relied on old live show footage captured on drummer Nic McLean’s VHS Recorder dubbed “Smith” for reference, and set forth to reproduce the sounds and themes from their youth. This project is the result of 40 years of friendship and hundreds of hours of recording which is now making its debut.
